Foods That You Should Never Give to Your Dog

It is always tempting to give our dog what we are eating, especially if our favorite pet comes and faces us with his long tongue out and eyes that are almost begging. During these scenarios, the usual reaction is to give some of our food to our pup. Of course, it will make us happy when our dog jumps with joy on the sight of the food being given to him.

When you are munching on some dark chocolates in your patio with our dog beside you, not giving him some of the chocolate can be the kindest thing to do. Chocolates contain Theobromine which may not be harmful to you, but it can make your dog have seizures and abnormal heart rate that can lead to death. In this instance, the best thing to do is to stand up and get some dog food. You can still enjoy eating together, you’re just eating different things.

Indeed, knowing the foods that promote dog health and those that are harmful is necessary for all dog owners. When our dogs are healthy, they will look good and act and react nicely. Aside from chocolates, here are some foods that you should never give to your pet dogs.

Fatty and Salty Foods

fatty foodYou should never give fatty and salty foods like bacon and ham to your dog. They can make your dog want to drink more water which can lead to bloating. Salty foods can also cause vomiting, seizures, high body temperature, and diarrhea, while fatty foods can cause pancreatitis. When not given the right attention, the intake of fatty and salty foods can lead to death.

Dairy Products

What is good for us may not be the same for our pet dog. We drink milk and eat cheese because they are good to our palates and because of the nutrients we can get from them. But these dairy products can be harmful to our dogs because they do not have the necessary enzyme to help breakdown dairy products in their digestive system causing indigestion and vomiting.

Raw Meat and Fish

Even if you have gone to eating fresh food for health reasons, you should find time to cook for your pet dog if you are giving them meat. Raw meat may contain harmful organisms that can cause diseases to your pet. Uncooked shrimps and fish can also trigger allergic reactions.

Ice Cream and Sweets

Sweet foods are not ideal for our pet dogs because of the high sugar content. Dogs are not typically lactose tolerant, and sugar also contains xylitol which can cause a drop of blood sugar. Sugary foods can also cause diabetes, just like in humans.

Garlic and Onions

When you notice that your dog is experiencing weakness and is vomiting with difficulty in breathing and loss of interest in food, they must have eaten large portions of these spices, which made your dog anemic.
